AutoX Launches Shanghai's First Fully Driverless RoboTaxi Operation

AutoX has been granted approval as Shanghai’s first driverless RoboTaxi operator. This approval marks the first time fully driverless RoboTaxis are allowed on the public roads of a downtown district in any metropolitan cities in Asia, in a major milestone for AutoX.

One of the largest metropolitan cities in the world with over 29 million people has opened up the downtown district of Pudong to our driverless RoboTaxis without accompanying safety drivers.

Our ambitions for Shanghai extend not only to growing our service area but also to expanding into full driverless operations.

We have been working towards this goal since we first launched its RoboTaxi ride-hailing service to the Shanghai public in August 2020, starting with Jiading district, the city’s automotive hub, and in partnership with major ride-hailing platforms.

Since then, AutoX’s Shanghai service has demonstrated an impeccable track record of safety, and was recognized by Shanghai’s transportation department for its safe operations in March 2022. In August 2022, we expanded our RoboTaxi service with safety drivers to the Pudong district.

Prior to our Shanghai operations, we also accumulated experience operating in busy commercial districts like downtown Shenzhen, where we have been operating our RoboTaxi fleet since 2017.

In Shenzhen, AutoX now operates autonomous RoboTaxis across a service area of over 386 square miles (1,000 square kilometers). Within this service area, the AutoX RoboTaxi fleet can operate fully driverless, without any accompanying human safety driver, across a 65 square miles (168 square kilometers) zone.

AutoX is rapidly expanding the sizes of its fleets and area of operations in five mega-cities in the world. Shanghai and Shenzhen are the two largest economic and technological hubs in the world, and two of its most lucrative markets due to their large and high-income population. They are also known as major automotive centers.

In early 2022, our RoboTaxi fleet had grown to more than 1,000 vehicles – a monumental milestone for us and the autonomous driving industry as AutoX’s RoboTaxi fleet became one of the largest in the world.
